Kingdom of Naples

The Napoleonic Kingdom of Naples (or Kingdom of Naples and Sicily aka the Kingdom of Two Sicilies) was established in 1806 and Napoleon’s brother, Joseph, was installed as King. No coins were minted under Joseph, who was sent to Spain and replaced by Napoleon’s brother-in-law, Joachim Murat, in 1808. In his coinage, Murat adopted the surname Napoleon.

Despite the “Kingdom of Two Sicilies” on the coinage, Napoleon never conquered Sicily.

Naples had two gold and silver coins that did not match the standard, the double florin and 40 franchi.
