Montenegro

Montenegro was established as a Prince Bishopric (1516-1852). In 1852 it became the Principality of Montenegro (1852-1910). In 1910, it became a Kingdom under Nicholas I (1910-1918) until it merged with the Kingdoms of Serbia and part of the former Austrian Empire to become part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

The perper was the currency for a short period, 1906-1918. This coinage matched Austria-Hungary at the time, which itself matched the LMU standard (except the 5 currency units silver, at 24 grams rather than 25 grams). This matches the 24 gram coins of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which Montenegro had a close relationship with.

Montenegro’s gold coinage had a higher gold content than the LMU standard (6.78 grams rather than 6.45 grams).
